Kōanga Festival 2023

15 – 24 September 2023

Celebrating new Māori storytelling for the stage

In celebration of Kōanga season, Te Pou Theatre will hold its 9th annual festival of new and exciting storytelling for the stage beginning 15 September 2023.

Kōanga is heralded by the blossoming of the kōwhai and the call of the pīpīwharauroa as it returns to our shores. This is a time for coming together and preparing the ground and plantain seeds for new growth.

For us at Te Pou, this means laying the foundations for new Māori storytelling to thrive in Tāmaki Makaurau.

This will be our first Kōanga at our Te Pou venue since 2019 and will be a time to bring the community together in celebration of new stories, storytelling and our incredible storytellers.
